Last week I gave you guys my Amazon Mother’s Day Gift Guide, which is great if you’re short on time with more money to spend. However, if you’re short on money but have more time, I have three super cute DIY Dollar Tree gift ideas you can make for the special mom in your life.
They are made solely with Dollar Tree items. Nothing cost more than $7 and they each took an hour or less to make. Honestly, I surprised myself with how great they turned out.
Dollar Tree Gift Idea #1: Shabby Chic Chicken Wire Frame
I got the general idea of this frame from Erin at Gentle Thrifty Mama. I loved what she did but wanted to turn it into a Dollar Tree gift idea for Mom. So I made this chicken wire frame and then just used mini clothespins to attach some pictures.
If you are gifting this to a mom in your life you can easily print a few photos and inspirational quotes at Walgreen’s or wherever you print photos at. They 4×4 size prints are perfect for an 8×10 frame. Walgreen’s always has a coupon code for photos so don’t forget to look for one before you print!
Below are the materials I used, which cost me $6 but I actually didn’t use the ribbon so it would only cost you $5 plus the cost of printing pictures. I was going to use the ribbon to make a hanger but I decided it looked cute propped up, use your own discretion:)
It’s easy to make but it does require that you let it dry overnight, so allow that time in your week. I cut off the top and bottom of the basket and then used the frame as a guide to cut out the right size, pictured below.
Next I applied the glue using the instructions on the package and used some regular size clothespins to clamp it. You’ll need an extra buck for those if you don’t have any.
It would also work great with hot glue, but Dollar Tree doesn’t carry glue guns (though they do carry hot glue sticks) so I didn’t want to use it. If you have a glue gun already, feel free to use that.
I let mine dry overnight and it was good to go. I absolutely loved how this Dollar Tree gift turned out. They have a lot of great frames to choose from so go to your nearest store and see what they have!
Dollar Tree Gift Idea #2: Sharpie Marker Mug
I’ve seen these floating around Pinterest for a few years now but never attempted to make one myself until this week. It turned out great! This mug in particular was inspired by one my friend Christian received as a gift.
She posted a picture of it and I was obsessed. Hands down easiest thing to make. One mug and one Sharpie. You write out your quote and then bake it in the oven at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Done!
My one tip is to grab a dry erase marker when you pick up your mug and Sharpie because if you make a mistake you just color over the Sharpie, like I did below, and it will wipe right off! How random and cool is that?!
That way you don’t worry about making a mistake, I had to write “mom” a few times to get it to look right. I also looked up handwritten fonts on Pinterest so I could copy one. I think it turned out great.
Take this gift up a notch by throwing some Hershey Kisses and a Dunkin Donuts gift card in it. Grab a Mother’s Day card at Dollar Tree and call it a day. Or whatever small gift ideas you think your Mom would like.
Mugs are a passion of mine so I’m partial to this idea but you could also do it to a plate or bowl. They have nice white bowls at Dollar Tree you could write in and gift as a catchall bowl. The possibilities are endless on this Dollar Tree gift idea!
Dollar Tree Gift Idea #3: Framed Quote
Can we just take a minute to talk about how cute this frame is? $1 at Dollar Tree! I honestly couldn’t believe it. This one is 5×7 but they also had 4×6 and hopefully they’ll get them in 8×10’s soon. I’d love to make the chicken wire frame with this style.
Framing a quote is probably the easiest of the three ideas. Pair it with some flowers or chocolates and you have a winner. Print your FREE printable quote here!
Then you can either print it at home or do what I did and print it at Walgreen’s. Either option looks great but I wanted to test the Walgreen’s option out in case you don’t have a printer to use.
So that’s it! For less than $10 and an hour of your time, you can create one of these DIY Dollar Tree gift ideas. I hope this gave you guys some good ideas, if you make any of them I’d love to see how they turned out in the comments! Which one is you favorite?
