Making an EASY Dollar Tree Craft Kit

Spring Break is upon us but if you’re here in the Midwest, it still feels like winter. Insert major side-eye. So if you’re racking your brain for what you and your kids are going to do to pass the time, I suggest throwing together one of these easy Dollar Tree craft kits to keep them entertained.

Dollar Tree has really stepped up their game recently when it comes to craft supplies. The selection is pretty good, even at the jankiest stores. (What is it with some Dollar Trees being incredible and others being total dumps?)

Here are the items you should start off with:

• Colored Tissue Paper
• Pipe Cleaners
• Pompoms
• Jewels & Gems
• Wood Beads
• Googly Eyes
• Construction Paper (not pictured because I have a TON currently but Dollar Tree has it too)
• Craft Sticks
• Glue sticks (I have a case still on hand from Amazon, but Dollar Tree carries Jot brand sticks- 4/$1)
• Liquid Glue (Dollar Tree packages (2) 4oz bottles together for $1. If you can stock up on Elmer’s during Back to School shopping you can probably grab Elmer’s for 4/$1.)
• Safety Scissors (Dollar Tree carries these as well but I am a HUGE fan of these safety scissors from Amazon. They cut paper really well and that’s the only thing they can cut.)
• Hole punch
• Small carrying case. (This isn’t essential but if you have multiple kids, it’s nice to throw a glue stick, bottle of glue, pair of scissors and a hole punch in each one so the kids aren’t fighting over them.)

For under $15, you’ll have a pretty decent craft kit that will keep your kids busy but not take up a bunch of space. I suggest finding a small drawer or area in your kitchen that you can keep your supplies. It makes the most sense because the kitchen table is typically where they’ll be doing their crafting. You can grab a cheap plastic table cloth from Dollar Tree to protect your table. Just fold it up after using it and you can easily get months of use out of one. (If it gets wet for some reason, just give it a quick wipe before folding it up so it doesn’t mold.) I only throw a tablecloth down if we’re using non-washable supplies, everything pictured is washable and will clean up with soap and water.

This list doesn’t include the basics like crayons, markers or colored pencils because I’m assuming you already have those. If not, Dollar Tree has these as well. One stop shop! I also didn’t include any paints in the kit because I know they can scare the hell out of parents. This is where being a messy mom comes in handy, I don’t care if paint gets on 99% of my things; but you don’t need to bust out a bunch of paint to get your craft on:)

The age range on this is probably 2-10 years old, the projects will just vary for each. It’s a great jumping off point and I will be showcasing some projects we make with ours over the next few weeks.
