Hello, lovelies! July is in full swing but don’t look at my meal plan to tell you that. I swear we don’t eat out of bowls every night or eat heavy chilis and soups all the time. Wait no, I can’t even say that. I used to say I didn’t like the heat but now I realize I just don’t like extreme temperatures of any kind. In my house, the temperature is always 70 degrees. Always. So I don’t really get too hung up on eating soups or chilis any time of the year.
The Plan
Sunday: Leftovers
Monday: Chicken Taco Skillet
Tuesday: Cheesy Smoked Sausage Pasta
Wednesday: Turkey Chili & Tortilla Chips
Thursday: Italian Wonderpot
Friday: Waffles, Fruit & Turkey Bacon
Saturday: Leftovers
The Follow Through
We had the chicken taco skillet, cheesy smoked sausage pasta and turkey chili. We also had leftovers once but Sean and the girls did a frozen pizza on Saturday and I went out with friends. The Italian wonderpot and waffles didn’t happen. One night we just needed a quick meal so I made the frozen chicken and garlic pasta I mentioned a few weeks ago.
Keeping quick, go-to meals in my freezer is essential to my operation. Even when we meal plan, stuff comes up and we don’t have 30 minutes to make dinner. Sometimes I only have 15 minutes or 10 minutes even. Having something I can whip up in the freezer is my fail safe. Sure, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches work in a pinch but having a back plan never hurts.
If you do skip a meal from the plan, be sure to add it to next week’s plan since you already have the ingredients. This keeps you from overbuying and food hoarding and keeps your grocery bill down!
Kitchen Essential
Something we’ve been eating a lot this summer that’s actually summer-esque is smoothies. Georgia and Kerrigan both love them and so do I. Refreshing, healthy and sweet, what’s not to love? However, they are usually too thick for the girls to drink them from a straw cup so I’ve been putting them in our reusable pouches and that works great!
We use Sage Spoonful Squeezies because they are durable and easy to clean. The one pictured is probably a year and a half old and gets used weekly and it’s still in perfect condition. We throw ours in the dishwasher and they come out perfectly clean. They’re also super easy to fill because the side is a “ziploc” so it opens really wide. I highly recommend these if your kiddos, especially the babies, like smoothies. I also put Kerrigan’s yogurt in these for mess-free snack time:)
Next Week
Next week I’ll definitely throw the Italian wonderpot and the waffles on the meal plan so we use up those ingredients. Maybe I’ll try to churn out some summer-friendly meals:) Right now it’s all about quick and easy in all honesty. I’d love to know your quick and easy summer meals! Let me know in the comments below.
